Since 2012 the Krewe of Iris has been hand decorating sunglasses as their signature throw - a nod to being a day parade and to Iris, the Goddess of the Rainbow. This signature throw is particularly special since they can actually be worn and shown off by the lucky parade-goers who catch them. The krewe takes great pride in decorating these - some members making up to 300 pairs each year. Parties are thrown throughout the year by Iris members to decorate their glasses and make sure each pair is special enough to be thrown and enjoyed on Iris Parade day. Given the generous nature of the ladies of Iris by the time the parade is completed almost every parade goer is flaunting a new pair of shades!
